Beauty through the haze
I had decided a while ago that I would try my hand at a mural in my room. I chose the one wall that had nothing interrupting the rectangle shape.
We had finished the primer and 2 coats of the paint. I then took a pencil and paper and drew out approximately what I wanted on the wall. I was so nervous to get started.
I sat there wirh a cup of coffee just staring at the wall not sure where to start. Eventually I got up and with my pencil, free hand drew out on the wall where I wanted the mountains to go. I knew full well that I might change my mind as I went. Maybe add one here, divide these here, combine these one here. The nice thing about this mural, is that there wasn't really ever a wrong way to do it.
Hard to see here, but this is after I drew on the wall. Of course dad had to come in and call me a rotten kid cause I was drawing on the wall. I told him he didn't teach me well enough!
I only bought two different shades of one color. Starting with the lightest for the far away mountains.
As I went from the farthest away mountain, I would add just a small amount of the dark paint into some of the light paint. I didn't want to darken the shades too quickly.
Some people have asked me how long this took me to do. I'll be honest, I don't actually know. I worked at it a little at a time.
Yes, once or twice I would do a layer, add more dark to the light, then realize I needed the previous color to touch up spots! I would do my best to recreate the previous color, but it didn't always turn out the best.
All in all, in the end, I'm mostly happy with it. There are a few brush marks that stick out when the light hits it right.
I did end up adding a small lighter moubtain in the middle. I felt it didn't look quite right without it. Also, without thinking about it, there is one mountain there on the wall that looks an awful lot like the beaver mountain.
This is the finished beauty. No, I did not take the time to make it look extra faded at the bottom of each layer. No, I didn't have a specific moubtain range I was copying. No, I didn't make it look extra hazy on purpose.
The color fade I believe has to do with the dark colors below the lighter color. Hard to explain typing words. I hope you get the idea.
This was so much fun! I would love to do more sometime.
Next...maybe onto floors, or maybe my window cover will be ready to hang!
I'm working a 2 week on 2 week off rotation, so things will be slow again for a bit.
Thanks for hanging in there!
It’s going to be wonderful!
