The mess...that will get messier

I don't know about all of you, but I find that when I'm trying to declutter or downsize or deep clean, the mess always ALWAYS gets messier before it gets better. So, I thought I would show you pictures of my room before. Yes, it's messy. Yes, it is green. Yes I am sharing the worst possible pictures. I could have cleaned my room BEFORE taking pictures of the before...but where is the fun in that?
One of the main reasons I am wanting to do this Reno on my room is to give locations to things. Something I don't have now. So...in all its sheer organic ugliness...here are my before pictures.

Also, you wouldn't be able to tell, but I did go through my big hope chest and get rid of many, many, many letters that were passed around in high school between myself and many friends. I didn't read through them all, but some I did read made me smile and giggle.
I have a hard time letting some things go, but I feel like the conversations written out on paper about "who we liked in high school" or "why we were mad at so and so" have been kept long enough. 
Someone suggested that I take pictures of items I might feel attached to but need to get rid of. So, there might be some of those that I am going to fit into my decor. We shall see what I come up with. 
This is so exciting!!!!

I had decided a while ago that I would try my hand at a mural in my room. I chose the one wall that had nothing interrupting the rectangle shape.  We had finished the primer and 2 coats of the paint. I then took a pencil and paper and drew out approximately what I wanted on the wall. I was so nervous to get started. I sat there wirh a cup of coffee just staring at the wall not sure where to start. Eventually I got up and with my pencil, free hand drew out on the wall where I wanted the mountains to go. I knew full well that I might change my mind as I went. Maybe add one here, divide these here, combine these one here. The nice thing about this mural, is that there wasn't really ever a wrong way to do it. Hard to see here, but this is after I drew on the wall. Of course dad had to come in and call me a rotten kid cause I was drawing on the wall. I told him he didn't teach me well enough!  I only bought two different shades of one...

Do you have a license to drive that thing?

The items I am working on and making for my room, the actual full finished product won't happen until things are all hung up and placed properly. But for now, I actually have something finished! I know I showed this picture before and asked for people to guess what it was for. Well, now you'll find out what I used these old license plates for. First I took tin snips and cut apart the letters. I had in mind a few words I wanted to spell out, but I didn't even really know what letters and numbers I had until I stopped cutting and laid them out. My sister pointed out I had the letters for 'calm' and 'storm'. So, I found a B and 4 and made use of a 3 for 'the' and came up with calm b4 the storm. Now, after cutting those apart the edges were rough and somewhat sharp.
