A little light on things
I am very thankful for the people in my family who are talented and gifted in many ways!
It was then time to drill the holes where this rope was going to go through to hang this light fixture from the ceiling.
Today's experience brings us to my cousin Fergie, an electrician.
We were able to take this used bathroom vanity light. This came out of my other cousins bathroom when they were renovating.
If you couldn't tell, I really like to reuse as many things as possible. Sometimes makes things more complicated but at the same time, we learn things as we go.
I took this apart as the board wasn't part of my plan. But the electrical part and the black part on the front side were on my useful list.
I had taken this piece of wood. I would call it old barn wood, even if it didn't come off a barn. It did however come off an old building and on the other side it is very grayed. I lightly sanded both sides and then sprayed it wirh a clear satin varithane.
Here we were laying out the position of the jar lids. As you'll see, this is how I will be attaching the lights...It'll make sense shortly.
After the placement was right, we drilled the middle holes.
Figured out exact placement. It was about this time when I realized I didn't like the stark white against the grey wood.
So...
They got sprayed black! Made sense. Looked much better.
We had to make the middle hole bigger to be able to put the wire and pieces into it. We also did countersink in the back so that the nuts would fit and not be seen.
I had one kind of rope that I thought would work well for the hanger. However, once we started on this part, I realized it just didn't look right. Too small. Too light. So, I went to the store and picked up this other rope that I am much happier with.
It was then time to drill the holes where this rope was going to go through to hang this light fixture from the ceiling.
I don't have pictures of all the next steps but I can tell you.
We cleaned up the wires and had them go to just 2 wires. Then, those got twisted Around the rope up to where the fixture was going to go in the ceiling.
They got covered on the top of the board so they wouldn't look so messy. I grayed any of the fresh cut ends. Then, it was time to hang!
This was a team effort.
I also helped, just hard to get pictures of myself while holding the fixture up for dad to drill holes.
Here she is in her shining glory!
I still need to figure out proper bulbs and which jars will be be final cut, but I love it. It is a thing of beauty!
