One of the things I did
In the last two years I have done a few things here and there for my room, I just didn't get around to sharing about them.
This first one starts down in Idaho.
My aunt and uncle had a woodshed that they had replaced sometime in the last little while. Me, with my love for old falling apart wood, asked if they had any of the old wood left. Turns out they did!
Did any of you know that bringing wood across the border is looked down on? I can understand old, dirty, big infested wood not being able to come across, but this stuff was well taken care of. And this is what we had to explain to the border crossing guard. Not only had this wood been treated (it was painted red), but when it was taken apart, it had been stacked neatly on a cement floor in a closed in shop.
After some debate, we were let across the border... with the wood.
I had big plans for this special wood from the beginning.
Now, I am very sure there are much easier ways to do this, but with all the cracks and uneven pieces of wood, I felt this to be the easiest way for me. After cleaning the wood of all loose parts, I set this up to paint.
Let me back up a little. I should have tried printing on a transfer paper but I didn't, mostly because I didn't have the things at home to be able to do that but I did have the map printed out on a white paper. So I traced it into a clear sleeve one would use in a scrapbook. Hey, I was using what I had at the time and it worked pretty well! I did have to turn off the light to let it cool off so that the plastic didn't melt.
Anyway, I continue with my project.
It took quite a while to finish up but I am so happy with how it turned out! I used regular old acrylic white paint and when I was done, did a few coats of a clear matte finish to help seal it all up. I even did a few coats on the back.
I am so excited to get this up on the wall. It has been leaning on the mantel for the last year or so but we now have the TV up there. This was made for my room and in my room it will go! Eventually.
