It's been a longtime coming
It has been a real hot minute since I have posted anything on here. Mostly because not much has happened in my room reno. However...things are now getting done!
Let's go back to where I left off.
March 2019, wow, it has been almost 2 years. So, there was summer, and a trip to the states, and taking care of grandma. There were other trips, other small projects, grandma passing away, 2 Christmases, taking a course, covid... busy life and really, I wasn't sure where to go next on my room.
I did manage to get the wallpaper taken down.
Here I am armed and ready for demolition. Andrea came the next day to help me with the other wall and we got it all done.
I was told that fabric softener diluted with water worked wonders on wallpaper. Where I looked for directions, I was told to do a 50/50 mixing. However, that was a little on the strong side. Did it work? Yes, like a dream in some cases. Did it stain the walls and make the whole room smell like fabric softener for ever? Yea, but I think that will go away some with painting.
This is as far as I got on my own.
With my sisters help, we tackled and finished the rest. Then there was a stall on it again for a while. Well, till just a few weeks ago when dad decided to start ripping up the carpet. I didn't get any pictures of that because of a strong allergic reaction I was having to the dust.
See, for some reason, in my room the carpet was glued to the floor. This carpet was very thin and by the time we were ready to pull it up, it was very old. So, the padding on the bottom part of the carpet stuck to the floor while the top part came up easy. The bottom had to be scrapped off the floor and all the dust from that made my allergies have a heyday.
Anyway, dad did the carpet.
Taadaa! Carpet all gone! Thank you daddy! The next step was to get rid of all the stuff that was in this room. So in just a few short days, I went through everything that was left, and moved what I was keeping out into another part of the house.
And today mom and I finished moving everything out, washed up the walls, I scraped off every tiny piece of wallpaper that had been leftover, then rinsed the walls, lightly sanded them and finished off with a dry wipe down.
Tomorrow we have a guy coming to do the mudding. It will take him a few times coming out to be able to finish up, but once he does, I get to paint!
There should be more of these blogs now and more frequent.
Hope everyone is finding ways to keep sane in these times.
